Here’s the analogy:
Heart = Marketing
Blood = Customers/Clients
Body = Business
Your Heart pumps the Blood throughout your Body. The Blood is depositing nutrients to your Body to keep your Body alive.
So, your Marketing is pumping in all these Customers/Clients into your Business. The Customers/Clients are depositing their money into your Business. They’re the ones keeping your Business alive.
So, what happens if your heart stops? The blood stops flowing and your body dies.
If your marketing stops, then your customers/clients stop coming in and your business dies.
Scary thought, huh? This is why marketing is sooo important. Without marketing you’ll be out of business. Capisce?
Here’s a very important quote on advertising from the man who built McDonald’s into the empire it is today, Ray Kroc, from his book Grinding It Out: The Making of McDonald’s:
“In our business there is two kinds of attitudes toward advertising and public relations. One is the outlook of the begrudger who treats every cent paid for ad programs or publicity campaigns as if they were strictly expenditures. My own viewpoint is that of the promoter; I never hesitate to spend money in this area, because I can see it comeing back to mee with interest. Of course, it comes back in different forms, and that may be the reason a begrudger can’t appreciate it. He has a narrow vision that allows him to see income only in terms of cash in his register. Income for me can appear in other ways; one of the nicest of them is a satisfied smile on the face of a customer. That’s worth a lot, because it means that he’s coming back, and he’ll probably bring a friend. A child who loves our TV commercials and brings her grandparents to a McDonald’s gives us two more customers. This is a direct benefit generated by advertising dollars. But the begrudger has a hard time appreciating this – he wants to have his cake and eat it too.”
You need to think of your advertising/marketing as an investment, NOT an expense.
“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” -Matthew 7:13-14
Now, you’re probably asking yourself, “Why on Earth would David share a quote from the Bible?”
Great question. I’m an Entrepreneur and I do what I want. There!
Actually, there is meaning to this Bible quote.
Think about it… everyone who goes through the broad road in life ends up like everyone else. The ones who takes risks, takes action, they’re the ones who are going through the narrow road. That’s where you’ll find all the successful people. So, where do you want to be?
