Back-to-the-Basics: Don’t Try To Sell Everybody

Today’s ‘Back-to-the-Basics’ is from John Caples’ book, Making Ads Pay.

Most of yes are always trying to sell our products and services to everyone who walks through the door.  We’re always trying to make everybody happy.  But that shouldn’t be the case…

“Don’t try to sell everybody and end up selling nobody.  In shooting big game it is better to use a rifle bullet that will knock one animal dead than to use buckshot that will merely pepper the whole flock.”

Think about it… if you’re selling financial services to wealthy individuals, you’re not going to be targeting postal routes using Every Door Direct Mail trying to sell to everybody.  NO!

You’ll want to get more specific than that and get a list of the wealthy individuals you want to work with and mail them directly… speaking to them directly with your message.

The more targeted you are with your marketing the better your results and Return-on-Investment will be.
