Newspaper Ad Fail

Oh dear… So I was looking through our local newspaper and came across some restaurant ads for St. Patrick’s Day.

Here’s a picture of the ads:

What's similar in these two ads?

What’s similar in these two ads?

Notice two ads for the same business surrounding a lonesome business.

What can you tell me about these ads?  Does something look similar to you?  Note, these are not the same business owners.

Look how the Corkscrew Saloon has an ad on top and bottom, and the publishers of the newspaper put another restaurant, Main Street Café, right in the middle.  It looks like one ad, except for the little line of whitespace between each ad.

So, back to what looks familiar.  Notice the plate of corned beef, cabbage, carrots, and glass of beer on the top two ads?  Aren’t those the SAME pictures???  I don’t know about you, but I would be upset if I were the business owners.  I’m sure the newspaper could have put a different stock photo on one of the ads.  Lazy!

Even if both restaurants were the same owner, change it up!  Be different.

A good lesson here… if you’re going to advertise in the newspaper, be sure your publisher will use a different stock photo than your competitors.  Better yet, supply your own photos or ad!!!

Now go take action!
